Helmsman Training
For those new to canals and narrowboats, we offer one and two day courses on our boats or yours. We cover safety, rights of way, setting off, stopping, steering, turning, mooring, locks, bridges, tunnels, going aground and more. All you need to know before going out on your own.

All training and handovers are carried out by fully qualified inland helmsman instructors with years of narrowboat and training experience.
NARROWBOAT ESCAPES HELMSMAN TRAINING
One day introductory course based on the Inland Helmsman course covering rights of way, safety, stopping, mooring, leaving a mooring, turning, locks, bridges and tunnels. Two day course covering the above and overtaking, going aground, narrowboat maintenance, theory session and more time to practice your new boating skills. We can arrange courses to suit your requirements including training holidays and have a go days. Training on your own boat is also available.

One day Narrowboat experience (min 2 people)
Narrowboat experience days are aimed at those who would like to have a go at boating but not sure about hiring a narrowboat or doing a formal course. Have a go at steering, mooring the boat and turning it round or just sit back relax and watch the countryside go by.
